A nice war museum
As a former artillery officer, it’s a must do activity to visit the 823 War museum because it was a cannon battle. It has a detailed introduction of the 823 War. When it started and ended. How many shells from where and the damages to different regions of Kinmen. Luckily, Kinmen is made of a very strong granite, thus it can sustain the bombardments of so many shells. Believe it or not, the shells left created a new business in a Kinmen, the famous Kinmen Shell knives.Dennis C

Decent Museum
Having lived in Mainland China for so long it is quite interesting to get a Taiwanese perspective. It is a small museum but very informative.Livewireshock

A history lovers delight
Detailing the island's experiences during the Taiwan Straits Crisis when mainland China fired continuous artillery barrages at the island and with no where being safe from long range guns. While biased towards the Taiwanese viewpoint, it was very informative and easy to understand.Chuang004

Impressive!
The 823 War Museum was completed in 1988, 30 years after the 823 Battle. (The People's Liberation Army extensively shelled the island during the Second Taiwan Strait Crises in 1958, August 23 through October 6.) Outside of the museum, it displays fighter jet, tanks and cannon used during the war. Inside the museum, it displays documents, pictures, military data, No. of shells falling into Kinmen (474,910!), and news/reports. Rong-Yuan-Wei Lu (榕園慰盧) is just right next to the museum. It has the buildings showing classic Southern Fujian architecture (慰盧). There is a huge banyan tree in the beautiful garden (榕園).
